Washington -Mikhail Gorbachev announced to the world that he was alive and well, after hackers cracked the microblogs Wednesday evening by the news agency and posted false reports of his death.


"I am alive and well. I understand that some people are trying to use their sites to catch people's attention or fulfill orders some powers of a former Soviet President, 82, said in a statement on the website of the newspaper "Novaya Gazeta".


He said the hackers "had hoped in vain and Russian profanity used to describe them.


Gorbachev liked many Russians for what they see as his role in the collapse of the Soviet Union, which was followed by political and economic chaos in the year 1990.


RIA state news agency removed bogus posts from his Twitter for a few minutes and said it had started an internal investigation and asked for an investigation of the federal security service.


The representative of the last Soviet President Gorbachev in June had been taken to hospital for tests. Rumors about his health, has spread on the Internet.


Gorbachev has maintained his interest in politics and criticized Russian President Vladimir Putin return to the Kremlin in the past year.


Hacked sites include Twitter account RIA's German-language service and its international multimedia news centre.
