Sanaa-August 6, eight people were killed in Yemen Marib province on Tuesday when a group of armed military helicopter shot down, police said.


The helicopter, participating with the army in the protection engineering team was on its way to a damaged oil pipeline in Al-Arqain area in Marib when it was attacked on Tuesday afternoon, Xinhua, quoting police as saying.


"The chopper was flying low when it was attacked by heavy gunfire that caused it to crash into the ground," said an official from the Ministry of the Interior.


«107 Brigade Commander, Hussein Mashbaa, as well as two pilots and five crew members died in the accident, "he added.


The police said that these militants were also behind the bombing of an oil pipeline last week.


The Yemeni Government last week announced that its main export pipeline was dynamited in Marib, only a week after it was repaired following previous attacks.


The pipeline carries about 110000 barrels of crude oil per day from Marib province export terminal on the Red Sea.


Yemen oil and gas pipelines, as well as the main power grid of the country, often been attacked since the eruption of protests against former President Ali Abdullah Saleh in the 2011 year.


Oil revenues make up more than 70 percent of the State budget, Yemen's oil and gas production accounts for more than 90 per cent of the exports of Yemen.
